A Vision Assistant, also known as an Ophthalmic Assistant, is a permanent main eye care provider for a rural community of 50,000 to 70,000 people. An allied healthcare professional with extensive knowledge and expertise in vision management who assists ophthalmologists and optometrists in the prevention of blindness is known as a Vision Assistant. They assist persons with refractive problems in understanding and managing their condition.

  • Help in the visual assessment and in the preparation of patients for eye examination for ophthalmologists and optometrists.
  • Delivering spectacles to correct refractive errors.
  • Diagnosis of secondary and tertiary eye problems and referring them appropriately to the base hospital.

Holistic teaching method (blended learning) characterized by its focus approach, stressing the importance of scenario-based practice with the help of latest tools and techniques. There will be comprehensive lab work requiring demonstrated competency to receive a satisfactory grade.
