This course will teach students the expertise they will need to work in the Central Sterile Supply Department of a hospital (CSSD). The trainee will study in depth about the necessary skills for working in a hospital CSSD. The trainee will be exposed to the fundamentals of sterilization, including sterilizer operations and handling, documentation, quality control, and sterilizing practices. The course will also interconnect and teach coordination of CSSD and infection control.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • In a scientific manner, clean, disinfect, and distribute sterilized instrumentation and equipment to an emergency department, critical care unit, labour and delivery unit, operating room, and other parts of a health care facility.
  • Contribute to a team of central sterile processing experts who are all working together to keep sterilization and storage at a high level.
  • Oversees inventory control, orders supplies, inspects, maintains, delivers, and retrieves surgical, emergency, and intensive care unit equipment and instrument

Holistic teaching method (blended learning) characterized by its focus approach, stressing the importance of scenario based practice with the help of latest tools and techniques. There will be comprehensive lab work requiring demonstrated competency to receive a satisfactory grade.
